CMAS diving courses

 

C.M.A.S. – Confederation Mondiale des Activites Subaquatiques

 

   The World Underwater Federation was founded in 1959 and by now it comprises over 130 federations from 5 continents. In addition to organizing international underwater sport events it is at the forefront of technical and scientific research and development. It can be associated with elaborating one of the oldest and most extensive dive training systems.On the 28th of September 1958, delegates from the following Federations: Federal Republic of Germany, Belgium, Brazil, France, Greece, Italy, Monaco, Portugal, Switzerland, the United States of America and Yugoslavia met in Brussels on the occasion of the congress of the independent International Confederation gathering all underwater disciplines.

   With this aim, a meeting was held in Monaco on January 9, 10 and 11, 1959 and a decision to establish the "World Confederation of Underwater Activities" in brief "C.M.A.S.", was taken.

Diver_1

A CMAS One Star Diver shall be trained such that when assessed by a CMAS Instructor, he shall be deemed to have sufficient knowledge, skill and experience to procure air, equipment, and other diving services and to plan, conduct, and log open-water dives that do not require mandatory in- water decompression stops, without the supervision of a CMAS Instructor or CMAS Dive Leader, when properly equipped and accompanied by another certified diver of at least the same level, provided the diving activities undertaken, the diving conditions and the diving area are similar, equal or better to those in which training was received.

A CMAS Two Star Diver shall be trained such that when assessed by a CMAS Instructor, he shall be deemed to have sufficient knowledge, skill and experience to procure air, equipment, and other diving services and to plan, conduct, and log advanced open-water dives that do not require mandatory in-water decompression stops, without the supervision of a CMAS Instructor or CMAS Dive Leader, when properly equipped and accompanied by another certified diver of at least the same level, provided the diving activities undertaken, the diving conditions and the diving area are similar, equal or better to those in which training was received.

Diver_3

A CMAS Three Star Diver shall be trained such that, when assessed by a CMAS Instructor, he shall be deemed to have a professional level knowledge of diving theory, solid rescue skills, dive management and supervision abilities, exemplary diving skills and sufficient diving experience to plan, organise and conduct open water diving activities and lead other recreational sport divers in open water on both guided and organised dives in a safe and competent manner.

A NITROX DIVER. This training programme aims at introducing Enriched Air Nitrox diving theory and techniques to either new entrants to the sport of recreational SCUBA diving or to certified CMAS divers, which will enable them to use EAN mixtures, with up to 40% oxygen during no-decompression stop diving activities, in a safe manner.
